What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding uses composite resin – the same material used for composite fillings – to shape a tooth. It also effectively repairs chipped, cracked, or broken teeth. This cosmetic procedure can restore the tooth’s natural look and durability with proper maintenance, providing a long-lasting solution. Dental bonding is also used to enhance the aesthetic appeal of a smile by reshaping teeth, correcting colour and closing gaps without the need for veneers or orthodontics.

The Dental Bonding Proces

Whether you are seeking dental bonding to restore a damaged tooth or to improve the appearance of your smile, the procedure is identical. Here is what you can anticipate during your dental bonding appointment:

Preparing the tooth

To begin the dental bonding process, a thin plastic film known as a dental matrix is placed between your teeth to shield the adjacent tooth from any preparation gel or composite resin. Afterward, the dentist will meticulously clean and dry the tooth, and apply a mildly acidic gel for a brief period to roughen the surface and ensure proper adhesion of the bonding material.

Applying the composite resin

After the acidic gel is removed and the tooth is dried once more, the composite resin is applied in layers. The dentist will select a resin colour that matches your natural teeth for a seamless, natural-looking finish. To ensure maximum strength and durability, a special blue light is used to cure each layer of composite resin.

Finishing touches

Once your bite is checked, your dental bonding procedure is complete. As a finishing touch, the dentist will give your newly bonded tooth a quick polish, leaving it looking beautiful and natural. In fact, you may even forget which tooth was repaired! Rest assured that we will document the procedure in your chart and during future dental exams, the dentist will pay special attention to the bonded tooth to ensure it’s in good condition and has not experienced any wear and tear.

Why Opt for Dental Bonding?

Numerous choices are accessible for revitalizing your teeth or attaining the smile of your dreams. The optimal alternatives will vary based on your particular requirements. In your appointment, we’ll be pleased to converse about all your options and their respective advantages and disadvantages, so that you can arrive at an informed decision. Having said that here are some of the advantages of dental bonding

Fast and pain-free

Unlike fillings or dental veneers, dental bonding usually doesn’t require extensive drilling to prepare the tooth for treatment. In fact, minimal to no removal of your natural tooth is typically necessary, making the bonding procedure virtually painless.

Affordable

While more complex and extensive treatments like dental veneers and orthodontics often come with a higher price tag, they also require a personalized treatment plan to achieve more significant and dramatic changes. On the other hand, for minor alterations to a few teeth, dental bonding is a straightforward and affordable treatment option.

Ideal for Minor Repairs

It’s worth emphasizing that if you have substantial changes in mind for your smile, a more intricate treatment plan that includes dental veneers, crowns, or orthodontics may be necessary. However, for minor alterations, dental bonding offers the most straightforward solution.

Walking in, I was greeted by two lovely ladies who were so pleasant & kind. Very welcoming environment. My fiancé had a different Dentist & Hygienist at his visit & he raved about his experience & how comfortable they made him feel which definitely eased my anxiety of going to a new place & feeling judged. My Dental Hygienist Heather was so informative & down to earth. She truly knows her stuff, gets to the point, & of course did a phenomenal job on my cleaning. She made me feel comfortable! The best experience I’ve had. They went through my X-rays which was honestly great, because I got an understanding of everything she was trying to convey about my cleaning which has never been done before in my past experiences. I didn’t feel judged at all which is always nice given that going to the Dentist can be intimidating. She’s hands down amazing at what she does. Mr. C was great too, dropped some knowledge & thoroughly communicated with myself & Heather about my oral health. It didn’t feel rushed, yet at the same time they got to the job done efficiently, given the time frame and expense. Great experience over all. We’ll definitely be back.

My experience was excellent. Sally gave me the most thorough cleaning I have ever experienced to date. She was very kind as I am a very, very fearful client and my anxieties were at a minimum. My only regret is that Dr. Kauldhar will not be able to do my upcoming dental work if I decide on the Root Canal as I have utmost faith in his work and I really fear not having the conscious sedation to which I am accustomed. However, whether it be regular filling or root canal, I will put my trust in the Eastview Dental team as a whole as soon as I decide. Marcia D'Antimo.
