The Tell-Tale Signs That You Might Need Root Canal Treatment

Root canal therapy is an essential dental procedure that removes infected pulp from inside the tooth, replacing it with specialized materials to restore function. This treatment not only preserves your natural tooth but also supports the health of your jawbone and surrounding tissues. Choosing to save your tooth with a root canal can help prevent future pain and costly dental work.

Common signs that you may need root canal therapy include:

  1. Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  2. Persistent or intense tooth pain
  3. Redness or swelling in the gums near the affected tooth
  4. Tooth discolouration
  5. An abscess or pimple-like swelling on the gums

The Root Canal Treatment Plan

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:

The process begins with an X-ray of the affected tooth and surrounding bone to pinpoint the source of your symptoms. If necessary, antibiotics may be prescribed to manage infection and inflammation. Since root canal pain often results from pressure caused by an abscess, reducing inflammation beforehand can help ease discomfort during the procedure.

Preparing the Tooth

To ensure a pain-free experience, we thoroughly numb the gums, tooth, and surrounding tissues before starting. Once you’re comfortable, a small access hole is created in the tooth. The infected pulp, bacteria, decayed nerve tissue, and debris are carefully removed to prevent further infection.

Sealing the Tooth

If the infection is severe, medication may be placed inside the tooth to eliminate any remaining bacteria. In cases requiring multiple visits, a temporary filling is applied. At this stage, most patients begin to feel relief. The tooth is permanently sealed only once it is completely clean and free of infection.

How Much Is a Root Canal in Barrie?

The cost of a root canal in Barrie varies but is often a cost-effective way to preserve your natural tooth. With standard insurance coverage, the average out-of-pocket expense ranges from $200 to $500+. For those without insurance, the procedure typically costs between $600 and $1,200+. After an oral examination, we can provide an accurate quote, which you can submit to your insurance provider for exact pricing.

Why does the cost vary? Several factors influence root canal pricing, including:

  • The severity and location of the infection
  • The health of surrounding teeth and gums
  • Potential complications requiring additional time or specialized care
  • No dental practice can provide an exact quote over the phone, as every case is unique.
  • A personal consultation with a dentist is essential to assess your condition and explore treatment options.

Alternatives to Root Canal Treatment
A tooth infection or abscess is a serious health concern that requires immediate attention. While a root canal is often the best solution to relieve severe pain and remove infection, untreated infections can become life-threatening. Our goal is to shift the perception of root canal therapy and ensure your comfort throughout the process.

If you’re unsure about treatment, we encourage you to reach out. We won’t proceed with any procedure without your full understanding and consent. In some cases, alternative options may be available to effectively address your infection.

Frequently Asked Questions

A root canal is a dental procedure that treats an infection deep within a tooth. It involves removing the infected tissue, thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the area, then sealing it to prevent further issues.

Most root canals are completed in one or two visits, with each appointment lasting about 90 minutes.

Wait until the numbness wears off before eating to avoid accidentally biting your cheek or tongue. Start with soft foods and ease back into your regular diet.

With proper care, a tooth that has undergone a root canal can last a lifetime.

The cost depends on the complexity of the procedure and which tooth is affected. Without insurance, it typically ranges from $600 to $1,200.

Most dental insurance plans cover part of the cost. With insurance, out-of-pocket expenses usually range from $200 to $500.

My senior Mom wanted me to post on her behalf. She had a lengthy appointment with Dr. Krupali Mistry and assistant Suleymi this past week. Gisela has never been so incredibly pleased coming out of the office as she was with her visit at Eastview Dental. “Best dentist office ever” she said. She is actually looking forward to her next appointment. Very pleased with every aspect of the visit. All of the receptionists/office staff are always amazing, kind and accommodating as well. Thank you all for taking such great care of your patients.

My mother has trusted Eastview Dental for nearly 20 years, and now I understand why. I hadn’t gone regularly due to not having a dental plan, but when I developed pain from a cracked tooth, they took me in with such gentleness and care. They even offered a payment plan, guided me clearly through what I needed, and also told me about a Government dental program I was eligible for but didn’t know existed. Recently during an exam they discovered a deep jawbone infection (I had no pain, but something that could have become very serious). I’m so grateful it was caught early. Dr. Mistry is my favourite Dentist ...kind, thorough, and has an excellent bedside manner. The office staff is genuinely warm, welcoming, and supportive, you feel it the moment you walk in. I feel truly cared for every time I’m there. I Highly recommend this Dentist office.

It’s always a great experience here. I don’t normally like the dentist but when I arrive and am greeted by Birgit, Cindy and Ondrea my nerves are calmed. They are so sweet to schedule with and you can tell they genuinely care. Dr C is by far the most highly skilled dentist I have ever encountered. 10/10 would never consider another office.
